School Coordinator Stacey and Mr Whillan from Selkirk High School went to celebrate Abbotsford House being open 250 years with 33 students from S2. 🎉
Pupils learnt about the historic house and gardens, listened to inspiring career journeys from managers and volunteers and what career paths Abbotsford has to offer. Careers vary from ground works, house maintenance, cleaning, wedding organisation, visitor centre retail, work experience and volunteer work. 🤯
"I am really excited to begin such an important role supporting young people in their journey from education into the workplace. Having grown up and lived in the Borders I understand the challenges young people in the area may face, therefore, feel very passionate about trying to bridge the gap and open as many opportunities as possible for our future workforce. I am really looking forward to working in both schools and learning more about the businesses in each local area. Through my work at NHS and SBC as well as through friends and family I have a wealth of contacts in different industries that I can use to help me flourish as DYW Coordinator."
Yesterday we had 5 Charity’s and 80 pupils be part of the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative which is a powerful active citizenship programme, empowering young people to make a difference in their communities while developing a range of skills.
Each group of students will pick a charity to champion with the aim to win the grant of £3000! This will involve teamwork, research and competition. Pupils enjoyed interviewing the charity’s and took lots of notes 📝. GOOD LUCK! 👏
