Borders Additional Needs Group or 'BANG', is a group set up by parents of children with special needs. We are a charity dedicated to supporting families who have children with additional, complex, or rare conditions. Borders Additional Needs Group was founded in May 2006, by a local health visitor and 4 parents to establish a parent-run support group that would allow children, families, and parent carers with additional, rare, or complex needs to meet support each other. Today, BANG's community is more than 80 families.
The Activity project led by Borders Additional Needs Group will provide dedicated Additional Support Needs Family activity sessions, Youth sessions and a dedicated Parent carer Emotional health and wellbeing pilot living in Scottish Borders. The project aims to improve the health and wellbeing and increase access to respite and coping with the demands experienced by ASN families. This project responds to an identified gap in the provision of ASN Family support in the Scottish Borders.
This role is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to use their creativity, skills and experience to make a difference to lives of ASN Families in the Scottish Borders. The Project Coordinator will work with the Board of trustees in the planning and delivery activity program, working with Branching Out Youths providing opportunities for learning and social interaction. The activities will aim to develop the peer to peer Parent Support, emotional health and wellbeing and provide sensory fun family activities. The project aims to help ASN families, Young carers and ASN youths feel more connected to their community and have improved access to respite.
