The ability to apply reason and think logically is an asset when faced with diagnosing intermittent faults which although difficult to solve at the time is satisfying when the fault has been resolved."
To-day manufacturing is extremely high tech in maintaining a company’s status as a world class organisation. This means maintenance engineering must be at the leading edge in supporting the manufacturing process ensuring the equipment is working at its most efficient.
As a highly skilled maintenance engineer you will be supporting the manufacturing process working with computerised manufacturing systems carrying out planned maintenance and emergency break down maintenance. This is a demanding role with the maintenance engineer having to being multi skilled in mechanical, electrical and process control systems.
What will I learn?
In this role you will work on equipment that is both mechanical and electrical. Machines are usually highly automated and require a very high level skill set to maintain them.
Knowledge of electrical, mechanical and plc would be taught during your apprenticeship. As with all apprenticeships you will also attend college to gain a NC & HNC electrical plus the SVQ level 2 PEO. Further educational opportunities may become available depending on attitude and grades achieved during your training.
What will you apprenticeship do:
1st year of the apprenticeship you will attend college 4 days per week to attain Performing Engineering Operations SVQ Level 2 (SCQF Level 5) and a Relevant NC and 1 day at your work place
2nd & 3rd year of apprenticeship you will attend college 1 days per week to attain a Relevant HNC
2nd to 3rd year you will also attend your work place 4 days per week and in 4th year 5 days a week to attain a relevant SVQ Level 3 (Sector Specific Pathway)
