Throughout your Engineering apprenticeship we’ll help you develop your skills and knowledge while giving you hands-on learning opportunities. The first year of your apprenticeship will be full time study at college with the further three years a mixed approach of study and learning in the depots.
What will I learn?It’s an exciting time to join Scotland’s Railway. There’s always a lot going on! Our maintenance depots throughout Scotland are responsible for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of more than 600 vehicles. Vehicle types are varied and include the most modern types of Traction and Rolling stock within the UK. There’s plenty to keep you busy!
You’ll learn all disciplines within our depots, while you work towards an SVQ Level 3 in Engineering.
This apprenticeship would suit someone with practical skills who wants a varied and interesting career.
What qualification or qualities are required?
You’ll have a head start in this vacancy if you’ve completed a Foundation Apprenticeship in a related field. We’ll need you to provide evidence of your qualification and show you gained the relevant skills from your placement
We’re looking for people aged 16-24 (disabled or care experienced applicants up to the age of 29 are eligible to apply) who are enthusiastic, responsible and safety-conscious with great oral and written communication skills. You’ll need to be self-disciplined and committed to putting pride and effort into everything you do. The apprenticeship is a big commitment, so we expect you to work hard for the time you’re with us.
Qualifications needed (or currently studying at this level):
- Standard Grades Level 3 or above in English, Maths, a Science subject and one other technical based subject
- National Grade English, Maths, a Science subject and one other technical based subject at Level 5
If you have a Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering then this would give you a head start too!
