Civil Engineering Trainee Technician - Scottish Borders Council

£8,778 to £17,337 per year

"As a Civil Engineering Trainee Technician you will work within the Roads Service. The successful applicant will undertake a structured training programme and gain experience in various sections to help deliver engineering or traffic based solutions to keep the road network within the Scottish Borders operating well."
You will be required to provide technical support to civil engineers on a range of infrastructure projects undertaken by the Council. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate a willingness to learn and undertake training.
The post-holder will undertake a structured training programme, which is likely to include experience in various sections as appropriate:

Engineering – Bridges, Flood and Coastal and Engineering Design and Construction Infrastructure Management – Traffic and Network Management Roads Planning Service

In this role you will study for an HNC Civil Engineering and a SVQ in Construction Contracting Operations, giving you the opportunity to ‘Earn n Learn’.

What will I learn?
You will be involved in the Council’s Modern Apprenticeship Scheme and will be supervised to undertake the following tasks:
1. To assist in the delivery of engineering construction projects through the design, procurement construction and handover stages to agreed standards and targets set in the Council’s strategic objectives.
2. To assist in the preparation of contract documents and drawings.
3. To assist in the monitoring of construction work.
4. To assist with the provision of roads related advice associated with Planning Applications.
5. To assist with traffic and road safety matters.
6. General office duties.

You will be supervised at all times and expected to work towards becoming a competent Civil Engineering Technician within 3 years of commencing your MA.

What qualification or qualities are required?
5 standard Grades, or National Qualifications, including English and Maths
A Higher pass in either Maths, Physics, a technical subject or significant appropriate work experience
